Photography

What is photography?
Photography allows one to capture the world around them with the press of a shutter. From a scientific perspective, it is the act of recording light either electronically or chemically.

The Oxford English Dictionary describes photography as ‘the art or practice of taking and processing photographs’.

Merriam-Webster is a little more specific: ‘the art or process of producing images by the action of radiant energy and especially light on a sensitive surface (as film or an optical sensor)’.
However, this tells us nothing about the heart of photography and what it truly means to us on a personal level. I have read a lot of quotes and definitions that answers the simple question: “What is photography?” but out of all of that what really caught my attention was the answer of Andrew S. Gibson.
According to Gibson,  photography helped him see the beauty in the world. Also, photography is informative as well as inspirational. Finally, "Photography is a journey, on both personal and literal levels, and I’m looking forward to finding out where it will take me next."

For me? Photography is looking at things from a different perspective. A puddle is just a small pool of water, but when it is viewed from a different perspective in terms of photography you see a beautiful reflection of something else.

In addition, photography makes you appreciate things more.

My Experience

How did I come to know photography and love it?

It all started when my friends and I joined the National Student Convention of the SOT curriculum in Subic, Philippines. There were a lot of events in which you could compete in, and photography was one of it. So we decided to give it a shot. We got help from one of my photographer friends, and of course she taught us what we needed to know. 2 months prior to the said event, we brought a dslr to school (most of the time) because there could be a possibility for us to take great shots there. We were more than satisfied with our shots. All I know is that by the end of the convention or even from day 1 we were so hooked up with photography already, and it carried out through the whole year. Our love for photography continued until now. You could say it was our new passion.

Here are some of our shots:
